Victorian Projects – Rare Earths & Mineral Sands
The Watchem Project consists of exploration licence EL7642, which is located next to the Douglas Mineral Sands Project which is located approximately 20 km west of Donald in northern Victoria.
Similar to the Goschen Central Project, drilling by CRAE at the Watchem Project in the 1980s have identified HM mineralisation. A modest amount of drilling has been completed at the Watchem Project since then.

EL007685 (Curyo North) and EL007685 (Curyo South) are located in the Victorian portion of the Murray Basin, a Cainozoic intracratonic shallow marine to fluvial sedimentary basin preserved over an area of over 300,000km2 in southeastern Australia, hosting a sedimentary pile up to 600m thick as reported by previous workers and described below.
EL007685 is located between the towns of Watchupga and Lascelles in north-western Victoria. The adjoining tenement EL007687 is situated between the towns of Birchip and Watchupga joined by the Sunraysia Highway.
The tenement area is cut by the Sunraysia Highway in a south-easterly direction. Access to the extremities of the tenement is via sealed and unsealed secondary roads and property tracks.
The Venice Beach discovery is a high-grade shallow strandline that extends over a strike length of >9km with an across strike width of 100-300m. The depth to the top of mineralisation is ~3m in the south, extending to ~10m in the North.
Drilling highlights from the Venice Beach strandline include:
- 00m @ 37.9% THM from 6.00m (24WN046).
- 50m @ 29.2% THM from 6.00m (24WN026).
- 00m @ 20.3% THM from 4.50m (24WN047).
- 50m @ 19.3% THM from 4.50m (24WN035).

Panned heavy mineral concentrate from Hole 24WN026 from 7.5 – 9m depth. Interval assay value 53.12% THM

The Douglas Project consists of three Tenements, being EL7908 and EL7544. Access to tenements is approximately 50km to the west of Horsham with a good network of local roads.
EL7544 is close to mining licence MIN5367 where the Douglas Mineral Sands Min, which is not associated with EL7544, was operated by Iluka Resources Pty Ltd (Iluka), with mining finishing in 2012. The Douglas Area is comprised of several mineralised strandlines and includes the Douglas Project and Douglas Mineral Sands Mine.
Highlights from drilling include:
- 0m @ 4.73% THM from 21.0m, including 4.5m @ 11.34% THM from 21.0m and 1.5m @ 18.15% THM from 24m (24DAC012).
- 0m @ 3.19% HM from 9.0m, including 7.5m @ 7.91% HM from 19.5m and 1.5m @ 15.28% THM from 24m (24DAC013).
- 0m @ 4.14% HM from 12.0m, including 10.5m @ 7.52% HM from 18.0m and 1.5m @ 15.16% from 22.5m (24DAC014).
- 5m @ 3.69% HM from 22.5m, including 3.0m @ 8.53% HM from 22.5m and 1.5m @ 10.45% from 24m (24DAC011).
- 5m @ 2.61% HM from 4.5m, including 18.0m @ 4.31% HM from 21.0m and 1.5m @ 14.93% THM from 24m (24DAC010).
